100 Mind-Blowing Bubbles Facts

Herring fish communicate by farting. When herring fish release gas, the bubbles they produce make a high-frequency sound that only herring can hear. The fish use this noise to arrange themselves into “protective shoals” during the night to keep them safe from predators.

One of the fun facts about these fun creatures is that depending on their species, penguins can jump up to 9 feet. How do these boxy birds do it, you ask? The magic happens underwater – penguins wrap their bodies in air bubbles from their wings and use this to propel themselves up to the surface.

A raisin dropped in fresh champagne will keep bouncing up and down from the bottom to the top of the glass. When you add raisins to a glass of champagne, they’ll sink to the bottom at first. However, after some time, the raisins will move up and down in the glass dancing. This motion is due to dissolved carbon dioxide in the liquid. The CO2 bubbles cling to the surface of the raisins. Thus, the raisin method is used to “revive” flat champagne, as well.

Glaciers make sounds. Aside from the sound of global warming, melting glaciers and icebergs emit a sound similar to fizzling soft drinks that experts have dubbed the “bergy seltzer.” It occurs when melting water frees tiny bubbles of air under enormous pressure, resulting in a sound so loud that it can be used to determine the distance of icebergs.

Melting glaciers make fizzy noises. This is also known as bergy seltzer because of how similar it sounds to fizzing soda. The sound is mainly due to the melting waters that free tiny bubbles trapped in ice.

The small holes under frozen pizzas prevent air bubbles from forming in the dough. The holes prevent the dough from being soggy or limp.

7-UP is a straightforward name. When Charles Leiper Grigg created 7-UP in 1929, he named it after the original 7-ounce bottle (7) and the direction that the bubbles go in a soda (up).

The citrus soda 7-UP was created in 1929; “7” was selected because the original containers were 7 ounces. “UP” indicated the direction of the bubbles.

You could survive for a couple of minutes in a leaky spacesuit. Although films such as Total Recall show instant explosions and rapidly puffed-up spacesuits, the effects of being exposed to space are slightly less dramatic. Although it would be unpleasant, you could survive for a couple of minutes. After around 10 seconds, you would lose consciousness. The lower pressure of the vacuum would cause your blood to boil, along with other body fluids (the moisture on your tongue, for example) – but this boiling alone would not be fatal due to the pressure maintained by our blood vessels themselves. Gas bubbles would form in your bodily fluids, causing your body to swell up and bloat. The low humidity of space would cause you to cool down rapidly, and your eyes may freeze over. Within one to two minutes, the lack of oxygen would be deadly. The stress of the situation may make these symptoms worse – you would become oxygen-deprived more quickly. A rapid decompression would cause damage to your lungs, eardrums and sinuses, along with bruising and bleeding from soft tissues.

SOME WHALES USE BUBBLE NETTING TO FEED. This involves whales cooperatively blowing bubbles that encircle their prey. As the prey won’t cross through the bubbles, they’re trapped, making it easy for the whales to eat them.​
