During Prohibition, the United States government became so frustrated citizens still consumed alcohol, that leaders took drastic measures. Bootleggers often stole industrial alcohol, so the government poisoned these alcohols. By the end of Prohibition, scientists estimate nearly 10,000 people died from this tactic.
