Herring fish communicate by farting. When herring fish release gas, the bubbles they produce make a high-frequency sound that only herring can hear. The fish use this noise to arrange themselves into “protective shoals” during the night to keep them safe from predators.
Most lipstick contains fish scales. Most of the lipsticks made are the byproduct of fish scales called pearl essence or pearlescence as it turns out that the stuff that makes the fish scales shine makes one’s lips shiny as well. Pearlessence comes from commercially fished herring. There are synthetic versions available as well but they are not widely used.
