French fries were invented in Belgium. Historians claimed that the first instances of potatoes being cut and fried began in the late 1600s. Street vendors would often sell this before the outbreak of the French Revolution.
Before alarm clocks, there were human alarms. Knocker-Uppers originated in Britain during the Industrial Revolution. When people needed to wake up and get to work, a knocker-upper’s job was to take a wooden stick and knock on the door to wake them up.
Madame Tussaud used real heads for her first wax creations. Madame Anna Maria Tussaud started her waxing during the French Revolution. She would grab heads from the guillotine pile, look for the most interesting faces, and create wax masks with their faces for the revolution.

Some people are afraid of technology. People have all kinds of weird fears and phobias out there, and technology is no exception! Aptly named technophobia, this fear stemmed from the Industrial Revolution and workers being afraid that machines would take their jobs. It applies in a similar way to today’s society, as well as people being scared of technology getting too advanced, such as artificial intelligence technology. Reign of Terror. While the guillotine is commonly associated with the brutality of the French Revolution, the Nazis also used the guillotine during the 12 years they were in power. In October 1936, Hitler secretly ordered 20 guillotines to be distributed to prisons in cities across Germany. According to Nazi records, they were used to execute approximately 16,500 people between 1933 and 1945, including resistance fighters and political protesters – a similar number to the French Reign of Terror.
At the same time, Caesar asked the astronomer Sosigenes to help reform the calendar. Most years were set at 365 days, but to make up for the fact that the Earth’s revolution around the sun doesn’t take exactly 365 days, leap years were implemented. Every four years the month of February was given an extra day to make up for what is a sort of rounding error in the calendar.
