People in New England thought tuberculosis was vampirism. The 19th century was the height of the “New England Vampire Panic.” during this time, people thought that “consumption” (what they called Tuberculosis) was spread by vampires. People would even dig up Tuberculosis victims and stake them through the heart. Not a fan of Twilight, it seems.
